Social Matches

This season we have 12 social matches scheduled across 4 Australian states and territories. (see below)
Matches are usually played on turf pitches and on Sundays (although there are some exceptions).
Typically there will be 40 overs per innings, with an agreed retirement score for batsmen, and agreed limits on the number of overs any one bowler can bowl.
Usually 12 players get to take part in each match.

This page details the Eccentrics schedule of social matches and venues for season 2009/10.

Sunday October 25 v John Kellett XI @ Olney Oval, Yarra Bend (Turf)
John Kellett XI is drawn mainly from Sunshine CC (Funky Miller’s old club) with a dash of Fitzroy Victoria Bowls & Sporting Club at which John Kellett is the manager. This is the inaugural match for this fixture. Given their background we will be wary of underarm deliveries !!
Sunday November 15 v City XI @ HH Olney Oval, Yarra Bend (Turf)
The City XI are Melbourne-based Adelaideans who, since 2004 have been playing an annual cricket match at Cricket Willows in Shepherds Flat against the Country XI. City’s leader, John Dugdale, says that the team is “hand selected annually from some of the finest and most available cricketers that we enjoy hanging out with.” He also reports that “The City XI has had an up-and-down record, with 2 wins, 3 losses and 1 controversial no-result in the 6 matches it has contested to date.”
Sunday November 29 v Explorers @ Hume & Hovell CG, Strath Creek (Turf)
This is the 10th consecutive year of this fixture hosted by Don and Anne McQueen. The Eccentrics lead the series 6-3 but a tight tussle is expected for the 10th anniversary. One of the three founders of the Eccentrics, Angus Lester will Captain our side.
Thursday December 3 v Port Adelaide @ Port Adelaide (Turf)
Jason Gillespie will be opening the bowling for Port Adelaide who will also provide a mixed team across A, B and C grades to take on the Eccentrics for the first time in a 30/30 contest. Sunday February 14 v Australian Cricket Society @ Trinity Fields Bulleen (Turf)
This is the 5th consecutive fixture with ACS currently ahead 3-1. Great relationship between the two organisations but a fierce battle on the field which itself is a highlight.
Sunday February 21 v Kilmore @ Kilmore (Turf)
Kilmore lead 3-0 going into match 4. Last match was played through the bushfire weekend. We face a cross-section of Kilmore CC. Great ground, great challenge !!
Sunday February 28 v Victorian government XI @ HH Olney Oval, Yarra Bend (Turf)
The Vic Government has issued a challenge to the Eccentrics which may have significant ramifications. They say that sport and politics don’t mix – well for those in our ranks with political aspirations this is an opportunity to test yourself against some of the slickest wordsmiths and most ruthless hatchet men in the business. We’ll provide the pitch – they’ll provide the spin !!”
Sunday March 14 v Cavaliers @ HH Olney Oval, Yarra Bend (Turf)
Eccentrics won the inaugural Julius Caesar Trophy last season during the Ides of March. Let’s make it back-to-back !! As mentioned above, the Cavaliers have a dash of Yackandandah about them.
Sunday March 28 v 49ers @ HH Olney Oval, Yarra Bend (Turf)
49ers are drawn from the wine industry with a few notables from the music industry. The current scoreline reads 5-3 in favour of the 49ers. The hospitality and entertainment on the day is always first class. Brace yourself for Rocky Dabcheck !!
Saturday May 8 v Bruny Island @ Bruny Island (Synthetic)
Our second Bruny fixture away and third overall. Fantastic venue south of Hobart – effectively playing on an island off an island off an island !! Great hospitality at Bruny Island Cc Annual Dinner. Spend a few days before or after the game on the island, around Hobart or tour the East Coast – weather is excellent in May.
